CityGardens Wins NewCities AppMyCity! Competition
Urban green spaces app chosen by prestigious international panel at New Cities Summit
Paris, France – May 16, 2012 – NewCities Foundation, a global platform for innovation and exchange on the future of urbanization, announces CityGardens as the winner of the AppMyCity! Prize at the inaugural NewCities Summit held in Paris, May 14-16, 2012.
CityGardens was chosen on its ability to renew the urban experience, connect urban residents, and make cities a more dynamic, enjoyable and sustainable place to live. The application is targeted to city dwellers and visitors alike; tourists looking for calm in the urban bustle, to mothers and their kids searching for green spaces, or friends meeting for a picnic in the city. The CityGardens application effectively guides users to parks and gardens closest to their geolocation and helps them discover and share areas of unexpected greenery in their neighborhood. Eric Boisselier and Philippe Pujau, the developers of CityGardens, will use the 5,000 Euros prize to further develop the app.
Speaking after the award ceremony, Eric Boisselier and Philippe Pujau stated “We want to thank the New Cities Foundation and the panel of judges for this honor. With this financial support we will be able to grow our service to encompass other points of interest around the city. Through the NewCities Summit we made many important international contacts that will be crucial to our development.”
The AppMyCity panel of judges consisted of experts and leaders from industry and the public sector, including: Charlie Hale, Google, Tim Leberecht, frog, Olivier Cormier, GE, Latif Horst, Cisco, Karsten Selle, Orange, Nimish Radia, Ericsson, Esther Dyson and Ron Huldai, Mayor of Tel Aviv and Naureen Kabir, NewCities Foundation.
“Part of the New Cities Foundation’s mission is to encourage innovations that make cities better,” said Former Executive Director of NewCities, Mathieu Lefevre. “There has been an explosion of creativity in urban areas through the growing popularity of smartphone applications. These applications are changing the ways citizens connect with their city. Our AppMyCity! Competition demonstrates that with just the touch of a button a citizen can improve their urban experience.”
