Abram Benedict is the Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) and leads a dynamic team of 13 Council members who govern the Mohawk community of Akwesasne. Akwesasne is the second largest First Nation community in Canada and is uniquely located on the international borders of Canada and the United States, and the provincial borders of Ontario and Quebec. MCA is an advanced First Nation government that delivers a wide variety of services to its members. The organization recently undertook initiatives to modernize and improve service delivery, utilizing innovative approaches such as design thinking and performance measurement.

Abram has spent the past 14 years in community leadership, most recently in the position of Grand Chief. Throughout this time, Abram established and now works to maintain good working relationships with federal, provincial, and surrounding local government partners, to the benefit of Akwesasne. He also serves on two non-profit boards as a director. Abram’s excellent leadership skills and vast political experience has allowed him to meet the needs of his people, raise the positive profile of his community, and enhance relations between Akwesasne and the Governments of Canada, Ontario, and Quebec.
