Our Mission

NewCities is a global nonprofit committed
to shaping a better urban future,
headquartered in Canada.

NewCities brings a ‘whole-city’ approach by convening and connecting key stakeholders of the urban ecosystem: the residents, governments, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and business communities of a city.

We do this through our events, editorial platforms, and actionable research.

Our work is guided by global frameworks and compacts, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

We particularly focus on:

  • Sustainable Development Goal 3 Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages,
  • Sustainable Development Goal 11 Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable,
  • Sustainable Development Goal 17 Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

We center Equity and Inclusion in all of our efforts as an organization to confront and disrupt biases, stereotypes, and discrimination, and combat systemic racism and anti-blackness. Non-exhaustive list of resources

Our  Expertise

We have a decade’s experience curating and producing innovative content about the most important emerging urban trends.

Over the years, NewCities organized 42 events in 22 cities countries, including 6 NewCities Summits.

Our editorial platforms open the door to more than 1 000 published op-eds, articles, progressive texts penned by international experts and leaders.

Our global network of members, whose insights help us determine the most pressing topics in cities, also adds great value to our work and enables us to stay current.

With the ongoing global pandemic, the team successfully shifted to online activities with three major virtual convenings, New Housing LIVE, Wellbeing Cities, and Higher Ground

To keep afloat the ever-changing global urban news, we launched online webinars and webcasts such as the Big Rethink, examining the contours of the post-COVID city, attracting more than 11 000 participants worldwide.

Our threesixtyCITY podcast also gives voice to key members of the urban fields to listen on the go.

Most staff members are based in office in Montreal, with satellite offices in Paris and Los Angeles where our sister organization, CoMotion, is based.
