Jay Carson serves as the Executive Director for C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and Senior Advisor to Bloomberg Philanthropies. In this capacity, Carson has overseen the integration of C40 and Clinton Climate Initiative Cities program to develop a premiere climate change organization committed to implementing meaningful and sustainable climate-related actions locally that will address climate change globally through a network of more than 40 cities.
Prior to joining C40 and Bloomberg Philanthropies, Carson was Chief Deputy Mayor for the City of Los Angeles under Mayor Antonio Villaigrosa where he led a successful overhaul of the city’s economic development and job creation efforts.
A seasoned political strategist, Carson worked in government and politics for over 15 years for elected officials including Senator Charles Schumer, Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle, Governor Howard Dean and now Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as well as serving as Director of Communications for President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation during the creation of the Clinton Global Initiative.
Carson was recently named as one of Fortune Magazine’s “40 Under 40: Ones to Watch.”
Born in Macon, GA, Carson received his BA from Columbia University in New York City. He lives in Los Angeles and is a member of the Board of Directors of Film LA and is a Senior Fellow at UCLA. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California.
